In a signing ceremony in Nyapidaw last week Burma’s Minster for Electric Power no. 1 Zaw Min signed a memorandum with a Chinese company to dam the Ngawchanka river with a 1055 megawatt hydropower project.
Also attending the signing with Yunnan Provincial Investment Holding Ltd chairman, Bao Minghu, was the minister for Electric Power no. 2, Khin Maung Myint, finance and revenue minister, Hla Tun, and deputy chief justice Dr. Tin Shun, along with other dignitaries from Yunnan and Naypyidaw.

Ministry of External Affairs New Delhi [edited by BRN for relevant information] 17. Both leaders identified the power sector as an area of growing cooperation. In this context, the two leaders agreed to cooperate in the implementation of the Tamanthi and Shwezaye projects on the Chindwin River Basin in Myanmar. They welcomed the involvement of M/s NHPC in carrying out the much required additional investigations after the signing of the MoU on Cooperation in Hydro-power Development projects in the Chindwin River Basin in September 2008. Subject to the findings of these additional investigations, the two leaders will endeavour to conclude the Memorandum of Agreement within a year.
